Why careful selection matters?

Most recruitment campaigns are subject to time pressure. There can be a rush to quickly shortlist, interview and offer. If not carefully managed this can lead to a poor outcome. Fortunately, thorough screening and selection can be achieved in a time effective manner with pre-planning, parallel processing and focus.

Focused screening and shortlisting

Having good role clarity and a clear understanding of expected behaviours sharpens focus and reduces screening time.

There is often overwhelming interest in roles and it can be burdensome to shortlist. Most recruiters place heavy reliance on what is known as an Applicant Tracking System (ATS). The problem with overreliance on ATS is that you can outsource decision making to an algorithm. We find that a combination of ATS and criteria driven manual review achieves more careful and accurate shortlisting

Why psychometric testing for shortlisted candidates?

We believe one of the predictors of raw capability is ability testing. Economical, objective and reliable, ability testing can predict a candidate’s capacity to perform a role and highlight potential weaknesses.

Behavioural predictors can map a candidates preferred way of operating against the requirements of a role. We have found that the Work Personality Index (WPI) is both a solid selection tool and can be used later to assist with ongoing development.

Why good interview technique is important?

Interview quality can vary dramatically. A structured, and informally engaging, behavioural based interview is a proven method for measuring demonstrated achievements against the requirements of the role. Using the STAR model, the candidate is required to cite a situation, explain the task that arose, the actions taken and the end result. This approach can filter those candidates who can demonstrate that they can walk the talk. Interview responses can be verified by reference check.
